YURBUDS: ADVENTURE LIKE NO OTHER

No one knows Adventure like yurbuds. In a staunch advocacy dedicated towards the athlete and the outdoor community, yurbuds®, maker of the number one sport earphone in the United States guaranteed never to hurt or fall out, comes out with its newest offering: the new Adventure series geared towards the outdoor community. yurbuds continues to design sport equipment for the needs of every type of athlete.

As an avid hiker, yurbuds designer Aaron Gorga is in tune with the outdoor community. By listening closely to the needs of his network, he created an innovative earphone that looks and feels like “gear” a hiker, climber or adventurer would use.

“Extreme outdoor athletes are accustomed to durable, water resistant gear that has a certain rugged look and feel,” said avid hiker and yurbuds designer Aaron Gorga, lead designer of the Adventure Line. “All of the details, such as the cord’s joint housing, location of the vents, and the way we layered materials were rethought and improved to exceed expectations.”

The new Adventure Line features all classic yurbuds qualities including a sweat and water resistant design for active use, FlexSoft™ comfort fit and TwistLock™ Technology that is guaranteed to never fall out. Additionally, the Adventure Line has tangle-resistant, rubberized woven cords which increase the water resistance to the IPX 5 level. The housing design and snap fit enhancers provide premium sound quality, and the QuikClik™ magnets allow for easy storage and access on the go.

The Adventure Line includes both in-ear “Venture” models and over-the-ear “Explore” models. The Venture and Explore Talk include a one-button microphone and is compatible with all smart phones including Android devices. The Explore Talk offers added comfort and support with a behind-the-ear design featuring soft, moldable ear loops.

“We are excited to release a new line that really delivers everything our adventurous customers want in an earphone,” said Daniel DeVille, Director of Marketing for yurbuds. “From concept to development and manufacturing, the Adventure Line was created not only for our community, but also with them.”

Designed to withstand the toughest outdoor conditions, the Adventure Line is guaranteed to never hurt, fall out, or lose sound quality, no matter how intense the journey. They are the first of their kinds created to work seamlessly with the enthusiast’s other outdoor gear.

The Adventure Line series is available in the following outlets: Power Mac Center, Runnr, Planet Sports, R.O.X., Columbia Sportswear, & Mountain Hardwear. For additional information on yurbuds, visit yurbudsph on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter or check out www.yurbuds.com.

Witnessing Young Cyclists at the Alaska Cycle Philippines

Last May 17, I was invited to cover the Alaska Cycle Philippines event at BGC. The events that day were for young kids so it was really fun to watch. I really admire kids who started to be engaged in sports activities at a very young age, and of course their parents who spent time and resources honing their kids' skills and introducing them to sports this early.

The events kicked-off 4pm with the junior ride. The support system of these young cyclists is just amazing! As they crossed the finish line and greeted by their parents and relatives, I just can't help but admire how these families bond through the love for the sport.

The cycle village offers a number of booths and activities for the kids (and spectators) to enjoy. Ironman, Bumblebee and Mr. Mime were there to entertain everyone throughout the event. I especially loved E-Cow doing a number of rounds on his bicycle and still have the energy to wave and greet event guests.

So here are some fun photos from the event:

Kudos to Alaska for staging this event geared towards promotion of sports to young kids!

Young cyclists ruled the Metro’s roads in Alaska Cycle Philippines 2014

Alaska has teamed up with Cycle Asia, a network of premier cycling events and Sunrise Events to launch the Alaska Cycle Philippines where Filipino riders geared up for three days of thrilling bike action last May 16 to 18 at BGC. Over 1500 cycling enthusiasts joined the event which featured exciting and challenging categories for children, adults and families.

The event was graced by Chris Robb, managing director of Spectrum Worldwide and owner of Cycle Asia, catered to cyclists of all ages and abilities with different race categories.

Categories include Tricycle Ride which is specially designed for young kids between ages 2 and 5, the Junior Challenge which is a more challenging category designed for older children where they have to ride as fast as they can within 30 minutes and then there’s the Foldies Community Ride which is catered to the popular folding bikes cycling community. The Alaska Cycle Philippines was a “Bike Ride Out”, meaning there were no winners just plain fun to promote participation and most especially good health and an active lifestyle.

"We are excited to continue an active year of Alaska Sports with the launch of the three events Alaska Cycle Philippines, Alaska IronKids Philippines Aquathlon and the Alaska World Milk Day Family run. Alaska teamed up with international partners to ensure that Filipino families participate in sports activities as exercise to promote their health and ensure a wholesome lifestyle," said Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, President/CEO of Alaska Milk Corporation.

The 7th National Nutrition Survey, done by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Health, showed that obesity is increasing with nearly two out 10 children considered as overweight. Under-nutrition is also a public health concern affecting nearly three out 10 children.  Alaska promotes nutrition through its leading brands, Alaska Powdered Milk Drink and Alaska Chocolate Powdered Milk Drink and through educating the public about the importance of drinking milk and keeping an active and healthy lifestyle.

Alaska promotes a holistic sports development program for the whole family and encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through biking, swimming and running. It also helps in community development and nation building by nurturing positive values of teamwork, cooperation and fair play through sports activities like the Alaska Cycle Philippines, Alaska IronKids Aquathlon and the World Milk Day Family Run.

Alaska Shines Spotlight on Country's Best Young Basketball Players

*** Press Release ***
Alaska shines spotlight on country's best young basketball players

From the Regional Selection Camps and Alaska Basketball Power Camps all over the country, - participated in by more than 80,000 boys, girls, and coaches - the top 50 boys and top 24 girls will undergo final selection on April 25 and 26 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum. The national coaches will be selected and also the top ten boys and top five girls will be named Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars on April 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Hall.

The hardworking players and coaches will be given the experience of a lifetime as they go on a trip to watch an NBA game and get the chance to meet some of their favorite NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA team met NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and watched a regular season game of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center.

Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz and WNBA Legend Tina Thompson, one of the greatest WNBA players of all time, will be in Manila to help run the National Training Camp. They will also coach in the second annual Jr. NBA Alumni All-Star game featuring past Jr. NBA standouts. Hayward and Thompson follow BJ Armstrong, AC Green, Luc Longley and Mugsy Bogues as NBA Players/ Legends who have been part of Jr. NBA-Alaska youth basketball program in the Philippines.

The best local basketball coaches, led by Alaska and PBA legend Jojo Lastimosa joined NBA coach Chris Sumner in conducting the clinics for the coaches and the players during the regional selection camps. The players were judged not just on their basketball skills but on STAR values of practicing Sportsmanship, Teamwork, positive Attitude and Respect for others at all times.

The Regional Selection Camps were conducted at Stadia Convention Center, Dagupan; Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa, Palawan; St. Paul University, Surigao; Ateneo De Iloilo; Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu; and the PICC Forum Tent, Metro Manila.

Wilfred Steven Uytengsu, President and CEO of Alaska Milk Corporation praised the continuing partnership between Alaska and the NBA, which has helped develop the sport and young boys, and girls become better individuals and productive members of society.

"We are excited to jumpstart another active year of Alaska Sports with the opening of the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA-Alaska program for young girl players. Alaska and Jr.NBA/Jr.WNBA encourage children to participate in sports to nurture their talent, live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy the benefits of outdoor play."

Under-nutrition also remains to be a public health concern affecting nearly three out 10 children.   Alaska recognizes the need of Filipino children for proper nutrition.  According to the 7th National Nutrition Survey done by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Health, obesity is increasing with nearly two out 10 children considered as overweight.

Through the program, Alaska leads in promoting a healthy lifestyle, especially among children, through regular sports activities and proper nutrition through its leading brands, Alaska Powdered Milk Drink and Alaska Chocolate Powdered Milk Drink.

Aspiring Champions gain a step closer to their dreams with JR.NBA / JR.WNBA presented by Alaska

The Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) study revealed that obesity, which can lead to serious heart problems and diabetes at a young age is becoming one of the most prevalent nutritional problems of Filipino children and adults.

Given these growing issues on health, Alaska continues their partnership with Jr. NBA this year to nurture young boys, and girls, become better individuals and encourage them to embrace a healthy lifestyle not just by drinking milk but also by leading an active lifestyle through sports.

The 2014 Jr.NBA presented by Alaska, the international youth development program of the NBA, formally launched last January 18. School clinics were conducted allowing aspiring champions in the country to be part of NBA’s international youth development program. Young girls were given the same trainings and opportunities as Jr. NBA participants because in these modern times, girls are just as interested in sports, especially basketball, as the boys.  Led by some of the best local basketball coaches, like Jojo Lastimosa, PBA legend and Alaska Head of Basketball Operations,  together with the NBA coaches led by Sefu Bernard in travelling all over the country to conduct school clinics for coaches and players.

A total of 10 girls and 16 boys (photos attached) where chosen from the Alaska Jr.NBA/WNBA Manila Selection Camp held last Apil 12 -1 13. They will be participating at the Alaska Jr. NBA/WNBA National Training Camp starting on April 24 to 27
Our aspiring champions will again undergo series of trainings at the Regional Selection Camp (RSC) in Surigao, Iloilo, Cebu, Dagupan, Palawan and Manila. The RSC is where the best of the best players in key cities will be selected and asked to participate in the third and climactic part of the program – the National Training Camp (NTC).

The 10 young boys and 5 young girls of Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA presented by Alaska All-Star Philippine Team will be chosen at the end of the NTC. These young champions will then be given the ultimate NBA experience by getting the chance to watch a live NBA game and meet the NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA All-Star Philippine team watched a Los Angeles Lakers home game against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center and met NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.

The Jr. NBA/ Jr. WNBA presented by Alaska, is just one of Alaska’s Sports Development Program that inspires children to become future champions through teaching them skills to play the game while incorporating the values of determination, hard work, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.

Become a champion too and join Alaska’s sports programs now! Come out and play!

NUTRITION. ACTION. CHAMPION.

Nuvali to Tagaytay LSD with Team SCR

Wow! Finally some time to blog! Not a surprise when I saw that my latest post was from April 20. The whole month of May passed by without me getting in Blogger! And now the most dreaded part of anyone who blogs - catching up with backlogs! I'll try my best to burn those backlogs today, so posts will be shorter, but still lots of photos. Hehe!

24th of March I joined Team SCR on their LSD from Nuvali to Tagaytay. They are celebrating their 2nd anniversary as a running group. These guys rock! I may not be a member of their team but they were warm and accommodating; such a friendly bunch of runners.

Me and Prof Syril resting in front of Rowena's Tagaytay
Overlooking Taal
KM 60?!?! Hahahaha!
After the tiring 27km LSD it was time for the celebration. Food and drinks were overflowing! Each one introduced himself/herself by giving a word (using the first letter of the name) which best describes him/her. Since I was a new face to most people in the group, I chose "newbie" haha!

And now to the photos (which were courtesy of Ikasam's DSLR and Jeff's GoPro):

CHEERS! To more years running together, Team SCR!
