Battle of the Sexes on March 3, 2013


Coach Rio has been talking about this idea of his --- a race which would feature a sort of battle between male and female runners, for quite some time now. Finally, this unique concept would be brought into fruition this coming new year. Runrio is now partnering with Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila to bring us Battle of the Sexes: Defend Your Gender!

Manila, December 20, 2012 - Sofitel Philippine Plaza announces the launch of RunRio – Battle of the Sexes, a 10k evening Fun Run to be held on the 26th of January 2013 at the SM MOA Grounds, SM Mall of Asia.  Over one million in luxury prizes from Sofitel is at stake during the fun run including a three night stay at the exclusive Imperial Residence, dining at Spiral, beauty treatments from Le Spa and Vietura, the new Aesthetic Lifestyle Institute.

RunRio is a series of 10k fun run is by the Sofitel Philippine Plaza and organized together with RunRio Inc., headed by the foremost running coach in the country, Coach Rio de la Cruz. The race will be on the 26th of January and it will have a unique Battle of the Sexes concept- Male vs Female where females get a 10 minute lead.  

Sofitel Philippine Plaza general manager, Goran Aleks says, “We have partnered with track and field coach, Rio de la Cruz who is an icon of the youth for espousing fitness in order to promote the importance of health and fitness to the Filipinos.  In addition, all the proceeds of the RunRio will go to Virlanie Foundation to help alleviate the plight of the street children in Manila.” 

Battle of the Sexes is presented to you by Chevrolet Philippines in cooperation with Century Pacific, Canon Fashion Tailoring, Gatorade and Timex. 

Registration commences at 1pm at Sofitel’s Harbour Garden Tent, where runners may claim their singlet and race number. The run officially starts at 6pm at the Mall of Asia grounds. Gun start at 9:00pm. The top three winners of each category wins watches from Soleus, special treats from Sofitel Philippine Plaza and many more gifts and surprises. 

Tickets are on sale at Php 800 each, inclusive of the run registration and running kit. Other registration sites are at Riovana BGC and Katipunan and Toby’s Mall of Asia.

Dear Runners,

It is with deep regret that we have to announce that the Battle of the Sexes race event which was originally scheduled to happen on Saturday, January 26, 2013 as a night-time race, is postponed. 

Despite being able to acquire approval/permits from the SM Mall of Asia and Pasay City authorities, we will be unable to organize a night-time scheduled race because we were not granted approval by the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) who has jurisdiction on vital portions of the Battle of the Sexes race route.

Citing safety and security concerns, the PRA have declined to provide approval on the use of the road under their authority/jurisdiction on a Saturday night race.

With this being the case, RunRio in partnership with Hotel Sofitel will need to reschedule and redesign the said race as a Sunday-morning event, thus the need for postponement.

The new schedule of the Battle of the Sexes race will be on Sunday, March 3 at 5:30AM.

In line with the postponement, registration period will be extended until February 17 for Online Registration and until February 24 for In-Store Registration.

Runners who have already registered for this event need not worry since their registration will still be valid for use on the same event. The CORPS Movement Foundation offers different programs such as: Anti-Drug Campaigns, Values Enhancement Program, Health and Wellness Advocacies, Workshops on Strengthening Family Relationships, among others. These programs have dramatically impacted and significantly contributed to the inculcation of values and virtues amongst children and youth, and to building safer schools, barangays, and communities.

Condura Skyway Marathon Registration As Easy As 1-2-3


Last November 16, I hurried to the CSM2013 registration center in Greenbelt 3. There were quite a number of early bird registrants. I finally decided to register for the 21k category (after contemplating if I'd do 21k or 42k). The registration process was fast, and the attendants were friendly and accommodating. CONDURA SKYWAY MARATHON KICKS OFF 2013 WITH MORE REASONS TO RUN

The premier marathon event in the country, the Condura Skyway Marathon, Run for the Mangroves 2013 goes to the starting line on February 3, 2013 in Filinvest City,  Alabang. It will be the curtain-raiser for the new running year of 2013 - perfect timing for those who are serious in getting back to form after the long series of holidays and merry-making and for those who finally would like to get off that couch and find the fun and fulfilment in running.

Organized by Condura Skyway Marathon’s Founder and Chief Organizing Officer, Ton Concepcion and its running ambassador Patrick Concepcion,  the sixth edition of this much-anticipated yearly race event by runners for runners once again is out to prove that it is worthy of its bid to be the premier running event in Asia Pacific. 

This year, the race will have the usual 10k, 21k and full 42k marathon categories plus the new 3.8k, 6k which are especially meant for the fun and adventurous runners who are not yet ready to take on the mid to long distance-races. 

By the first hour of February 3, 2013, the Condura Skyway Marathon will again make the Skyway as the runners’ playground.  Originating from the Filinvest City in Alabang, runners of all distances will be taken to the Skyway as a major part of their race route – a major attraction that promises runners of an exclusive, traffic-free, clean and well-lit race environment. 

Apart from the challenge and fun that this race has in-store for runners, participating in this race will also mean taking part in the Condura Skyway Marathon advocacy of helping with the reforestation of the Mangroves in Zamboanga de Sibugay in partnership with Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF) . Each runner through their registration, will get to donate three mangrove seedlings which will be planted in his/her name. In 2012, the first year that Condura Skyway Marathon adopted the mangroves reforestation project to its cause, a total of 39,000 seedlings have already been planted in Kabasalan Town through runners’ donation.

A very special treat also awaits interested Condura Skyway Marathon 2013 participants!  Get a chance to register for FREE to any race category upon buying a pair of an ASICS running shoes.
